CVs For Permanent IT Jobs

 

Introduction

As the employer is requiring somebody to become a member of the company he will almost certainly be interested not only in the skills and experiences but the character side of the candidate also.

Your CV should not be more than 2 pages long and the first one should contain sufficient interesting detail to encourage the recruiter to want to read the second.

Contents should be as follows:

Profile

Using sharp ‘punchie’ positive words his should say things about you pertaining to your overall character. It should also describe what you are and what you are looking for.

Skill-set

List your skills, focussing on the most recent and current, ignoring old dated technology.

Achievements

List no more than 6 events of happenings that you would consider achievements.

For example you may have:

  • Project managed a highly complex and difficult project but delivered it on time and within strict budget limitations.
  • Designed a program that has successfully replaced manual calculations thus reducing man-hours and thus saving the organisation XXXXXX amount of money.
  • Designed, documented a Disaster Recovery Plan ensuring business continuity for the company.
  • Introduced a new software package, which has made the company for more efficient and able to make more money.

Career History

Always document your career reverse-chronologically, as the most recent is clearly the most relevant.

Education and Training

List your qualifications both academic and professional and any training especially any that is pertinent to the job you are applying for.

Personal Details

Most people put their ‘Date of Birth’, however if you feel that you maybe prejudiced against for either being too young or too old then leave it out completely.

Interests may say a bit about the sort of person you are, but avoid religion and politics as these maybe considered controversial and give the wrong impression. Do not include references but state that they can be produced.
